How much does two weeks in the Riviera Maya cost?

MORE LIFE. BETTER PLANNED.

Three plans for the same 14 nights, priced line by line from the operators, the archaeological institute and the Quintana Roo tax portal on 25 September 2026.

THE SHORT VERSION
  • Two weeks costs about 450 USD a person on the cheapest workable plan and about 3,848 USD on an all-inclusive one. The same fees and fares sit under both; the bed, the ferry class, the data plan and the dive days move. 2, 3, 4
  • Five tickets and two taxes come to 3,494 pesos, about 203 USD a person, before a single bus fare: the 983-peso entry permit, the 283-peso state tourist tax, and entry at Tulum, Cobá, Chichén Itzá and two cenotes. 5, 6, 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, 4
  • Tulum's ruins charge three tickets, not one. INAH takes 210 pesos, GAFSACOMM 295 and CONANP 120, so a foreign visitor pays 625 pesos at the gate, about 36.24 USD. 1, 4
  • Plan on 32 USD a day on the hostel plan and 275 USD a day on the resort plan, then add food and flights. 2, 3, 4
  • Pay Quintana Roo's tourist tax only at visitax.gob.mx. The state calls the tax mandatory for every foreign tourist and warns that copycat .com sites overcharge for the same receipt. 11

How much does two weeks in the Riviera Maya cost?

Three plans, 14 nights, one person, every line read from a source on 25 September 2026.

The ferry to Cozumel costs 80 pesos on Ultramar's cheapest fare, about 4.64 USD, and 380 pesos in First Class for the same crossing on the same boat. That is the shape of the Riviera Maya: the water, the ruins and the buses are cheap, and the bill arrives from the bed and the ticket window. Two weeks on this coast runs 450 USD a person or 18,219, through the same turnstiles. 12, 2, 13, 4

So here are three plans for the same 14 nights, priced line by line. The fees come from Mexico's archaeological institute, the Quintana Roo tax portal, the bus and ferry operators, one hostel, one dive shop and two booking sites, all read on 25 September 2026. Pesos convert at 17.2454 to the dollar, the Federal Reserve's rate for 18 September. Wider country planning sits in MMT's Mexico travel guide. 4

Pesos converted at 17.2454 per US dollar, the Federal Reserve's noon buying rate for 18 September 2026. Food, drinks, flights, travel insurance and car rental stay outside all three columns; the two all-inclusive plans fold meals into the nightly rate, so their food bill already sits inside the lodging line, while the hostel plan leaves food to you. Nightly rates: Sayab Hostel's own site, 12.50 USD for a six-bed dorm, excluding Quintana Roo's environmental tax, which the hostel charges at the desk without printing an amount; Riu Palace Riviera Maya from 238 USD and Grand Velas Riviera Maya at an average 1,250 USD, both booking-aggregator listings read on 25 September 2026 that move with the date. The hostel plan skips diving and the airport taxi; the resort plans skip the city bus. Lodging is priced per room on the two resort plans, so two people sharing split that line. The taxi line prices one airport leg at 420 pesos inside the published 350 to 550 zone range, and the city bus line prices ten Hotel Zone rides at 12 pesos. The transport line covers four confirmed legs: the airport coach, the Playa del Carmen-Cozumel ferry with its sanitation fee, the coach to Tulum, and the coach from Valladolid back to Cancún; it does not include a Tulum-to-Valladolid fare, which this pass could not confirm (see the confirm box). Every other line traces to a named source: taxes and permits to VISITAX and Mexico's immigration guidance, ruin and cenote tickets to INAH, CULTUR, Ik Kil's own site and a local guide for Gran Cenote, transport to Ultramar and ADO, connectivity to Airalo. 5, 6, 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 4

The spread is 41 times over, and it is almost all bed. Take lodging out and the three plans run 274.86, 515.90 and 719.46 USD, and three-quarters of that spread is dive days. Choose the room and you have chosen the price of the trip. 2, 3, 13, 4

The bed is 39 percent of this plan. Tickets and taxes together are 45 percent, and they hold almost still whichever hotel you choose, which is why they belong in the budget first. Source: 2, 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, 5, 6, 14, 15, 16, 17, 12, 22, 19, 4

On this plan the gates cost more than the bed. Five tickets come to 2,228 pesos and the paperwork to 1,266, which is 202.60 USD before anyone boards a bus. That is the floor under a Riviera Maya trip, and it is the same floor for a traveler in a dorm and for a guest at Grand Velas. Only the lodging line above it moves. 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, 5, 6, 4

The 14 nights these budgets price

Four bases, one loop south down the coast and inland for the big ruins. Every priced transfer below appears in the fares table further down this page, and every ticket has a real price in the one before it. One connection, Tulum to Valladolid, has no confirmed fare; it is called out where it happens. 15, 16, 17, 12

A flat, walkable base a few blocks from the ferry pier, with the cheapest published bed on this page: 12.50 USD a night in Sayab Hostel's six-bed dorm, 48.00 USD for a private quad room. 2

→ ADO coach from Cancún airport or the Tren Maya, 124 to 197 pesos. 15, 18
  2. 02
    Cozumel3 nights

Two or three mornings of boat diving on the sheltered west side of the island, in the lee of the land; the windward east side breaks over open reef and keeps the boats off it entirely. A two-tank trip runs 95 to 135 USD and one operator folds the marine-park fee into 115. 21

→ Ultramar ferry from Playa del Carmen, 80 pesos on the Ultraplan fare or 380 in First Class, plus a 24.37-peso municipal sanitation fee each way. 12
  3. 03
    Tulum4 nights

The ruins on the cliff above the sea, Gran Cenote up the Cobá road, and Cobá itself inland. Tulum residents enter their own archaeological zone free; a foreign visitor pays 625 pesos. 1, 9, 7

→ ADO coach from Playa del Carmen, 90 to 136 pesos on the day this was priced. 16
  4. 04
    Valladolid3 nights

The inland base for Chichén Itzá and for Cenote Ik Kil nearby. Yucatán residents enter Chichén Itzá free of the state fee; a foreign tourist pays 653 pesos in total. 8, 10

→ No confirmed fare exists for this leg; budget separately for a colectivo, a private transfer, or a longer routing through Cancún.

With less time: With ten days, drop Valladolid. That saves 653 pesos at Chichén Itzá, 240 at Ik Kil and the 255-to-406-peso coach back to Cancún, and it leaves the coast at a pace you can walk. 8, 10, 17

Valladolid is the one stop with no priced bed on this page. No Valladolid hotel publishes a rate you can read without a booking widget, so all 14 nights are priced at the Playa del Carmen dorm rate instead. Drop your own Valladolid quote into that line and the rest of the arithmetic holds. 2

Why do the Tulum ruins cost three tickets?

Three organizations collect money at the same gate, and each prints its own price. INAH, the federal archaeology institute, runs the archaeological zone. GAFSACOMM handles the site's services. CONANP charges for the national park the ruins stand inside. A foreign visitor pays all three: 210 plus 295 plus 120, so 625 pesos, about 36.24 USD, against the 210 that a single search result suggests. 1, 4

Quintana Roo residents pay 45 pesos of Tulum's GAFSACOMM fee and Tulum residents pay none of it; Yucatán residents are exempt from the CULTUR fee at Chichén Itzá; students and teachers pay 30 pesos of Tulum's park fee. At 17.2454 pesos per US dollar, the foreign column is 129.19 USD and the national column 86.98. Cobá also sells entry outside normal hours for 730 pesos. Gran Cenote's figure is a local guide site's report, not an official price page.

Chichén Itzá inverts the ratio. INAH charges 105 pesos there, the same for everyone. Yucatán's tourism body, CULTUR, then adds 548 pesos for foreign tourists and 190 for Mexican nationals, and exempts residents of the state. The federal ticket ends up as 16 percent of what a visitor from abroad hands over at the gate. 8

Both sites close earlier than a slow morning expects. Tulum opens 08:00 and closes 17:00, with last entry at 15:30. Chichén Itzá runs 08:00 to 16:00, last access 15:00. Cobá takes its final visitors at 16:00. An afternoon arrival at any of the three is a wasted coach fare. 1, 8, 7

What do the cenotes cost, and who collects the fee?

The cenotes belong to somebody, and the price follows the owner. Gran Cenote, on the road from Tulum toward Cobá, is administered by the local ejido, a Maya communal landholding whose members set the fee and take it at the entrance. Reported entry is 500 pesos for Mexicans and foreigners alike and 120 pesos for locals, with gear priced separately. 9

That is worth saying plainly, because the brochures rarely do. Mexico's 2020 census counted 774,755 speakers of Maayat'aan, Yucatec Maya, and the communities around these cenotes and ruins are the ones writing the rules, setting the prices and issuing the tickets today. The fee you hand over at Gran Cenote goes to a cooperative, not a park service. 23, 9

Cenote Ik Kil, near Chichén Itzá in Yucatán. General entry is 240 pesos, with life jacket, locker and parking inside the price. 10 · Álvaro de la Paz Franco · Source · CC0
  • Gran Cenote, Tulum: 500 pesos general entry, 120 for locals, plus 50 pesos for a life jacket, 80 for snorkel gear and 30 for a locker. The ejido that runs it publishes no price page, so those figures come from a local guide site. 9
  • Cenote Ik Kil, near Chichén Itzá: A round, open-roofed sinkhole with vines trailing down to the waterline and daylight falling straight through the shaft. Entry is 240 pesos with life jacket, locker and parking included, 150 pesos for children under 1.20 m, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. 10
  • The Ik Kil buffet package: 530 pesos, which adds a meal and one drink for 290 pesos over the entry ticket. It is the only restaurant price on this page read from an operator's own site. 10

Budget 740 pesos for these two cenotes and the swimming is paid for. Rental gear at Gran Cenote can add 160 pesos on top of that. Pack your own mask and the day gets cheaper by exactly that much. 9, 10

Buses, the train and the ferry: what each leg costs

Every fare below is the operator's own figure, read on 25 September 2026.

A rental car is optional on this route, and the fares are the reason. ADO's coaches leave Cancún for Playa del Carmen every 15 to 30 minutes. The Tren Maya has run the Cancún to Playa del Carmen segment again since 15 August 2026. Ultramar's ferry crosses to Cozumel through the day, roughly every 30 to 90 minutes from about 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. 15, 18, 12

At 17.2454 pesos per US dollar, the 170-peso airport coach is 9.86 USD and the 380-peso First Class ferry seat is 22.03. Ultramar adds a 24.37-peso municipal environmental sanitation fee to every crossing. Fares shown as a range are live quotes read on 25 September 2026 for travel that day and shift with departure, class and season. Tren Maya figures come from press coverage of the operator's August 2026 announcement, because the operator's own fare page blocked every attempt to read it. Cancún's municipal bus fare comes from a city press release dated 23 August 2024, the most recent official statement found. Taxi zone fares come from an independent fare blog, not a government tariff.

One leg on this route has two prices in public. ADO's own site starts its airport coach to the Hotel Zone at 170 pesos; an independent fare blog quotes 95 pesos for what it calls the same run. The operator's figure is the one in the tables here, and the other one is in the box at the foot of this page. 14, 20

What does a dive day in Cozumel cost?

A two-tank boat dive in Cozumel runs 95 to 135 USD across operators, and 115 USD at Pelagic Ventures with the marine-park fee and tax already inside the price. That 115 is the number to hold quotes against, because the park fee is the line most shops bill separately once you are standing on the dock. 21

Waves break over a broken, shallow reef along an exposed rocky shoreline under a bright sky

Three dive days at 115 USD is 345 USD, the largest optional line in the luxury column of the first table and the easiest one to move. MMT's Cozumel diving budget prices a longer dive trip in full, and marine park and conservation fees covers the charges that land after the quote. 21

Is Tulum expensive, and what does a day here cost?

Tulum is expensive at the gate and ordinary on the bus. The ruins cost a foreign visitor 625 pesos, three times the 210 a quick search suggests, and Gran Cenote asks 500 more. The ADO coach down from Playa del Carmen is 90 to 136 pesos. Put those together, at the top of the coach range, and a big Tulum day costs about 1,261 pesos of tickets and fares, roughly 73 USD, whatever the room costs. 1, 9, 16, 4

Flights, travel insurance and car rental stay out of all three. The two resort rates are booking-aggregator listings read on 25 September 2026, priced per room, so a couple sharing halves that line and the per-day figure with it.

  • The bed. 12.50 USD against 238.00 against 1,250.00 a night. Nothing else on this page has that range. 2, 3, 13
  • The ferry class. 80 pesos or 380 pesos, same boat, same crossing. 12
  • Who you are at the gate. Yucatán residents skip the 548-peso state fee at Chichén Itzá, Quintana Roo residents pay 45 pesos of Tulum's 295-peso service fee, and Tulum residents enter their own ruins free. 8, 1
  • Whether you dive. Zero to 345 USD across the same fortnight, on one operator's published price. 21

Your card moves the number too, quietly, a few pesos at a time. MMT's guide to foreign transaction fees and exchange rates shows how to read a payment quote, and ATM fees abroad covers the cash side, which matters here because the cenote gate and the city bus both want pesos in hand. 4

What should you do first?

Five things. Three before you fly, one at the airport, one every morning of the trip. Each one has a price or a time above, and each one is cheaper done early than at a counter in Terminal 3.

  1. Pay the state tourist tax at visitax.gob.mx

Quintana Roo requires VISITAX of every foreign tourist under Article 51 octies of its Law of Rights, and the state names its own portal as the only place the tax is collected. Pay before you fly and keep the receipt on your phone. 11

  2. Find the entry permit on your airline ticket

Mexico's tourist entry permit, the FMM, is reported at 983 pesos for 2026, and air travelers usually have it bundled into the fare as a tourism-tax line. Look for it on the receipt before paying a second time at the airport. A 14-night stay falls outside the seven-day waiver. 5

  3. Buy the data before you land

Airalo's Mexico eSIM runs on Movistar at 26.00 USD for 10 GB over 30 days with 100 minutes and 100 texts, or 62.00 USD for 30 days of unlimited data. Either one covers the whole fortnight in a single purchase; a 15-day unlimited plan is 43.00 USD. 22

  4. Take the ADO coach out of the airport

ADO's airport bus to Punta Cancún in the Hotel Zone starts at 170 pesos and takes about 45 minutes, with up to nine departures a day from Terminals 2, 3 and 4. A zone taxi is 350 to 550 pesos for the whole car, so with three people and bags, price both. 14, 20

  5. Put the big ruins in the morning

Tulum's last entry is 15:30 and Chichén Itzá's last access is 15:00, and the coaches from the coast take time. Book the early bus, carry pesos for the gate, and keep the afternoon for a cenote. 1, 8, 16

Think in pesos. Every government fee, ruin ticket, cenote entry, bus fare and ferry seat on this page is set in pesos; the dive, the dorm bed and the eSIM quote in dollars. At 17.2454 pesos to the dollar, the fixed stack of permits and tickets is 202.60 USD a person, and the rest of the trip is a choice about the room. 4, 2, 21, 22

Frequently asked questions

How much should I budget per day in Cancún and the Riviera Maya?

On the hostel plan here, 32.13 USD a day covers the bed, the tickets, the taxes, the buses and the eSIM across 14 days, with food on top. Cancún's own city bus is 12 pesos in the Hotel Zone and 9.50 pesos in the urban zone, which keeps local travel near nothing. The two resort plans work out at 274.85 and 1,301.39 USD a day with meals inside the rate. 2, 19, 3, 13, 4

How much is Chichén Itzá in total?

105 pesos to INAH plus 548 pesos to CULTUR, Yucatán's tourism body, comes to 653 pesos for a foreign visitor, about 37.87 USD. Yucatán residents skip the 548-peso state fee; everyone, resident or not, pays the 105-peso federal ticket. 8, 4

Is Tulum expensive compared with the other ruins?

At the gate, yes. Tulum stacks three tickets on a foreign visitor for 625 pesos. Chichén Itzá reaches 653 pesos once Yucatán's 548-peso state fee joins the 105-peso federal ticket. Cobá is the cheap one at 210 pesos, and the only one of the three with a single collector. 1, 8, 7

Why is there no food budget in these tables?

Because no restaurant on this route published a price readable on 25 September 2026. The single food figure here is Cenote Ik Kil's buffet package at 530 pesos, against 240 for entry alone. The two all-inclusive plans fold meals into the nightly rate. Set your own food line and add it to the hostel column. 10, 3

Should I rent a car for two weeks?

The legs we could price total 677.74 pesos, about 39.30 USD, on the cheapest routing: the airport coach, the Playa del Carmen-Cozumel ferry round trip with its sanitation fee, the coach to Tulum, and the coach from Valladolid back to Cancún. Tulum to Valladolid has no confirmed fare here; see the confirm box. No rental company on this route published a readable per-day rate on the research date, so a car stays unpriced too. Compare any quote, plus fuel and parking, against that roughly 39 USD of confirmed fares, plus whatever the missing leg costs. 14, 15, 16, 17, 12, 4

Does the Cozumel dive price include the marine park fee?

At Pelagic Ventures, yes: 115 USD a person with the park fee and the tax folded in. Across operators a two-tank day runs 95 to 135 USD, and the unbundled park fee is roughly 13 USD per diver per day on that operator's own figures. Ask every shop what its quote covers before you pay a deposit. 21

Are these hotel prices what I will pay?

Only Sayab Hostel's is close to a fixed price: its own site lists 11.00 to 12.50 USD a dorm bed and 48.00 USD for a private quad. The Riu, Grand Velas, Banyan Tree and Iberostar rate pages either blocked the request or hold their prices behind a booking widget, so the 238 and 1,250 USD figures here are aggregator snapshots read on 25 September 2026, not fixed rates. Get a written quote for your dates before you book either resort. 2, 3, 13
