Bali airport to Canggu, Seminyak or Uluwatu: fares and drive times

MORE LIFE. BETTER PLANNED.

Four operators' own 2026 prices for the same ride, the two app pickup points, and the drive-time table that decides when you should pre-book.

THE SHORT VERSION
  • The same car to Canggu costs IDR 225,000, IDR 300,000 or IDR 425,000, about USD 12.56 to USD 23.72, depending on which operator you book. That is a gap of IDR 200,000 for the same 18 to 21 km drive. 1, 2, 3, 4
  • A 5 p.m. landing turns a 30 minute run to Canggu into 75 to 90 minutes, and 90 to 120 on a weekend evening, on one operator's own published table. Book the villa check-in around the real number. 5
  • Grab and Gojek meet you away from the kerb. GrabCar uses a lounge inside the International Arrival Terminal. GoRide and GoCar mean a 10 to 15 minute walk toward the motorcycle parking. GrabBike is unavailable for airport pickup. 6, 7
  • The public bus starts at IDR 4,000, about 56 times less than the cheapest named car to Canggu, and stops running at 19:00. Right for a solo daylight arrival, wrong for a family at night. 8, 1
  • Pre-book if you land between 4 and 8 p.m., carry cases, or head to Ubud. A named driver inside arrivals with free cancellation 12 hours ahead is the calmest IDR 300,000 of the trip. 2, 5

What does a transfer from Bali airport cost?

Four named operators, their own published 2026 prices, read on 26 September 2026.

The plane lands at Ngurah Rai and the decision is already waiting. Past baggage claim, past the levy desk, a row of drivers holds name signs while the taxi counter works through its queue. Three named operators will sell you the same ride to Canggu for IDR 225,000, IDR 300,000 or IDR 425,000. Same road. Same traffic. The gap is IDR 200,000, about USD 11, and it comes down to which page you opened before you flew. 1, 2, 3, 4

Per car, one way, and not per person. Bali Airport Taxi, Bali Driver Hub and Kuta Transport state that tolls and airport parking sit inside the price, and Kuta Transport adds that 21 percent government tax and service are included too; Bali Rent Scooter's price list names no inclusions. Bali Driver Hub also sells a big car for 5 to 10 passengers at IDR 700,000 to Seminyak, IDR 750,000 to Uluwatu, IDR 850,000 to Canggu and IDR 995,000 to Ubud. Dollar figures use Bank Indonesia's JISDOR reference rate of IDR 17,917 per US dollar on 25 September 2026.

Canggu carries the widest spread: IDR 425,000 against IDR 225,000 for the same 18 to 21 km drive. Ubud costs the most whichever operator you pick. Three of the four operators state that tolls and parking are already inside their price. Source: 1, 2, 3, 9

What separates an IDR 225,000 quote from an IDR 425,000 one is the vehicle and the wait. Bali Airport Taxi sends an English-speaking driver into arrivals with a name sign and allows free cancellation up to 12 hours before pickup. Kuta Transport's IDR 250,000 minivan to Uluwatu already carries 21 percent government tax and service. 2, 9

Bali Driver Hub sits at the top of the range and says why: a private air-conditioned car with driver, fuel, airport parking and tolls, on fares it describes as calculated for the 2026 season and moving with fuel, toll and parking costs. Price the comfort, then decide. 3

Where do Grab and Gojek pick you up?

Neither app meets you at the kerb, and that catches people out every day. Grab's own airport page puts GrabCar pickup at a GrabCar Lounge inside the International Arrival Terminal, and states plainly that GrabBike is unavailable for airport pickup. Gojek's own blog sends GoRide passengers on a 10 to 15 minute walk from the arrivals door, looping halfway around the car park building to the motorcycle parking area. 6, 7

That walk is the whole trade. Grab's own figure for the 13 km run into central Denpasar is IDR 90,000 to IDR 150,000, about USD 5.02 to USD 8.37, in 25 to 40 minutes. Canggu is farther and the app prices it live, so read the Denpasar number as a floor, not a fare. Gojek's own page recommends GoCar over GoRide for groups or heavy luggage. 6, 4, 7

Airport pickup for the apps was negotiated, not given. Grab opened its first official passenger pickup booth at the domestic arrivals area in April 2018, with the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Management Union, after years of conventional taxi drivers chasing off app drivers who tried to collect there. That history is why the meeting point still sits where it sits. 12

Once you are in a resort town the motorbike apps get cheap. Indonesia's transport ministry sets the fare corridor for online motorbike taxis in Zone I, which includes Bali, at IDR 2,000 to IDR 2,500 per kilometre, with a minimum of IDR 8,000 to IDR 10,000 covering the first four kilometres, effective 10 September 2022. Gojek confirms it prices inside that government floor and ceiling. 13, 10

  • GrabCar waits in a lounge inside the International Arrival Terminal. GrabBike is unavailable for airport pickup at all, so a cheap motorbike ride starts once you reach a resort town. 6
  • GoRide and GoCar use a pickup point near the airport motorcycle parking, a 10 to 15 minute walk from the arrivals door. Gojek's own blog gives the directions. 7
  • A pre-booked driver meets you inside arrivals holding your name. That is the difference a fixed fare buys, and on a wet evening with two cases it is the difference that matters. 2

How long is the drive at rush hour?

One operator publishes its own drive times for the Canggu run. The spread between morning and evening is the useful part.

A 6 a.m. landing and a 5 p.m. landing are two different trips. Bali Fast Track Airport publishes its own table for the airport-to-Canggu run: 30 minutes on a weekday between 05:00 and 08:00, and 75 to 90 minutes between 16:00 and 20:00. On a weekend evening in that same window it stretches to 90 to 120 minutes. Three times the morning drive, on the same road. 5

Time of dayWeekdayWeekendTraffic
05:00 to 08:0030 min40 minLight
16:00 to 20:0075 to 90 min90 to 120 minWorst

These are the two rows the operator prints for this route. It names 16:00 to 20:00 daily, plus all day Saturday, as the worst traffic windows. One operator's own experience, and not a government traffic study.

Drivers choose between three routes, and the quick one changes with the hour. The same operator lists the coast run through Kuta and Tuban at 18 km and 40 to 90 minutes, Sunset Road and the Sanur Bypass at 22 km and 50 to 75 minutes, which it calls often faster at peak, and the Bali Mandara toll road through Denpasar at 25 km and 50 to 80 minutes. Longest distance, narrowest range. 5

The toll on that third route is IDR 14,000 for a car and IDR 5,500 for a motorbike, set by the road's operating company and effective 27 April 2024. At IDR 17,917 to the dollar that is about USD 0.78. Most of the fixed fares in the table above already have it folded in. A self-driven car or a metered ride pays it on the day. 14, 4, 2, 3

Canggu, Seminyak, Uluwatu or Ubud: which drive is which

Distance is the part people guess wrong. Seminyak sits about 12 km from the terminal, Uluwatu about 19 km, Canggu 18 to 21 km depending on which of the operator's own figures you use, and Ubud about 37 km, on Bali Fast Track Airport's own figures. Kuta Transport puts Uluwatu at about 18 km and a 30 to 45 minute drive. Ubud is the outlier at 75 to 120 minutes, which is a whole evening after a long-haul flight. 5, 9

Distance and drive time from Ngurah Rai (DPS) by area, from the operators' own pages, September 2026 5, 9
AreaDistance (km)Drive timeRoute note
Seminyak1225 to 40 minShortest run from the terminal

Canggu18 to 2145 to 75 minThree published route options
Ubud3775 to 120 minThe longest drive of the four

Uluwatu carries two sets of figures from two operators: 19 km and 35 to 50 minutes from Bali Fast Track Airport, 18 km and 30 to 45 minutes from Kuta Transport. Canggu's 45 to 75 minutes is the operator's all-day average; its own hourly table gives 30 minutes before 08:00 and 75 to 90 minutes after 16:00. Distances are measured to the area and not to a street address, so a villa at the far end adds minutes.

A green clifftop headland drops in tall limestone walls to a rocky shore where white surf lines roll in from an open grey-blue ocean, with a railed walkway and small pavilions along the cliff edge

Uluwatu is priced differently because it is a different drive. The road climbs onto the Bukit Peninsula and the villages up there sit far apart, so the address matters more than the area name. Kuta Transport charges IDR 250,000 for a 1 to 5 person minivan, tax and service included. Bali Driver Hub charges IDR 395,000 for the same leg in a standard car. 9, 3

Ubud earns its IDR 350,000 to IDR 495,000 on distance alone. Landing at 4 p.m. and heading inland means arriving in the dark, hungry, at the end of a 120 minute drive. Landing at 9 a.m. means a rice-terrace afternoon. Same fare, different day. 2, 3, 5

The cheapest way out of the airport

A bus fare of IDR 4,000 is a fraction of every car quote here: 37 times less than the IDR 150,000 run to Kuta, 56 times less than the cheapest car to Canggu. Bali's Trans Metro Dewata service, restarted on 20 April 2025, charges from IDR 4,000, runs every 15 to 16 minutes, and operates from 04:30 to 19:00. That is about USD 0.22 against IDR 225,000 for the cheapest named car to Canggu. 8, 1, 4

What the bus costs you is effort and daylight. You walk to a stop, handle your own luggage, and finish somewhere that still wants a second ride. The last departure at 19:00 also rules it out for most evening arrivals. For a solo traveller landing at 9 a.m. with one backpack, it is the best value on the island. 8

Bluebird, the metered taxi brand most visitors have heard of, runs in Bali and lists its electric e-Bluebird and Bluebird Prime cars as available there. Its own pages print no per-kilometre or flag-fall figure, and its airport transfer page is a live booking form. So the meter stays an unknown until you are standing at it. 15

Your arrival day, in order

The transfer is one line in the arrival bill, and the levy is another. Every foreign visitor to Bali has paid a one-time levy of IDR 150,000 since 14 February 2024, through the provincial government's Love Bali system, checked at the airport among other points. Add the cheapest named car to Canggu and the plane-to-villa total is IDR 375,000, about USD 20.93. 16, 1, 4

  1. Pay the levy before you fly

The Love Bali system takes IDR 150,000 per person before or on arrival, and it is checked at the airport. Paying at home removes one queue from the day you land. 16

  2. Decide how you will pay for the ride

Fixed-price operators quote in rupiah, so settle the payment question before you land. MMT's guide to ATM fees abroad and its read on transaction fees against the exchange rate both do that arithmetic.

  3. Pick your ride before baggage claim

A pre-booked fixed fare puts a driver with your name inside arrivals. Grab sends you to a lounge in the International Arrival Terminal. Gojek sends you on a 10 to 15 minute walk. The counter runs a meter. Choose while you are still watching the belt. 2, 6, 7, 11

  4. Match the ride to the hour on your boarding pass

A 6 a.m. arrival reaches Canggu in about 30 minutes. A 5 p.m. arrival takes 75 to 90 minutes on a weekday and 90 to 120 on a weekend. Book check-in and the first dinner around the real number. 5

  5. Say the price and the address out loud

Name the area and the street, then repeat the agreed figure, before the luggage goes in. Ask what that figure covers: Bali Airport Taxi, Bali Driver Hub and Kuta Transport state that tolls and parking sit inside their quote, while Bali Rent Scooter names no inclusions, so a toll request at the barrier is worth a question. 2, 3, 9, 1, 14

Then the long part is over. The scooter rental, the local SIM and the walk to the beach can all wait until morning.

Which option should you book?

Pick on three things: the hour you land, the luggage you carry and where you sleep. Four operators give four honest answers, and the cheapest one is rarely the right one for a family at 6 p.m.

  • Landing before 8 a.m. with one bag, headed to Kuta or Seminyak: take the IDR 150,000 to IDR 175,000 end of the fixed fares, or open Grab. The road is light and the walk to a pickup point is bearable. 2, 1, 5
  • Landing between 4 and 8 p.m., or travelling with children and cases: pre-book a fixed fare with a driver holding a sign inside arrivals. The traffic is the same either way; what you are buying is skipping the queue and the walk at the end of a long flight. 2, 5
  • Headed to Ubud or Uluwatu: pre-book. Both runs are long enough that a driver who knows the address beats the price gap, and no live counter price for the Uluwatu zone exists to compare against. 5, 9
  • Travelling alone, landing in daylight, counting every rupiah: Trans Metro Dewata from IDR 4,000, then a GoRide once you are in town at IDR 2,000 to IDR 2,500 a kilometre. 8, 13

The bigger transport question starts the morning after: private driver, Gojek or your own scooter for a month. MMT's Indonesia travel guide frames the island choice behind it, and if the trip ends on the quiet east coast, the Amed diving-month budget prices a base there.

Frequently asked questions

Is Grab cheaper than a fixed-price airport taxi?

Sometimes, and you cannot know before you land. The only Grab figure on its own airport page is IDR 90,000 to IDR 150,000 for the 13 km into central Denpasar, and Canggu is 18 to 21 km with a live in-app price, so treat that as a floor rather than a quote. The app prices live inside a government floor and ceiling, and you walk to the GrabCar Lounge in the International Arrival Terminal to meet it. 6, 1, 10

Can I take a GoRide or Grab motorbike from the airport with luggage?

Not comfortably beyond a backpack. The same Gojek page that gives the GoRide pickup directions, a 10 to 15 minute walk each way, recommends GoCar over GoRide for groups or heavy luggage. GrabBike is unavailable for airport pickup at all, on Grab's own page. Save the motorbike apps for once you are in town and moving light, where the regulated fare corridor for Bali puts them at IDR 2,000 to IDR 2,500 per kilometre. 7, 6, 13

Should I book the transfer before I fly?

Book it if you land between 4 and 8 p.m., travel with children or cases, or head to Ubud or Uluwatu. Bali Airport Taxi allows free cancellation up to 12 hours before pickup, so an early booking costs little to change. For a morning arrival to Kuta or Seminyak with hand luggage, deciding in the terminal is fine. 2, 5

Do I pay the toll and parking on top of the fare?

Not on the fixed fares in this guide, with one gap. Bali Airport Taxi, Bali Driver Hub and Kuta Transport all state that tolls and airport parking sit inside the quoted price, and Kuta Transport adds that 21 percent government tax and service are included too. Bali Rent Scooter's price list names no inclusions, so ask before you book. The Bali Mandara toll itself is IDR 14,000 for a car, so a self-driven or metered trip pays that separately. 2, 1, 3, 9, 14

Should I wait for a metered taxi like Bluebird instead of booking ahead?

Probably not, unless every fixed-fare operator above is unavailable. Bluebird confirms it runs in Bali but prints no fare on its own site, so a metered ride prices itself against a 2022 counter tariff that is four years stale, not a number you can check today. A named fixed price gives you the figure before you queue. 15, 11

What did the official airport taxi counter charge?

The most recent published structure MMT could read dates from June 2022: an IDR 120,000 minimum meter fare plus IDR 6,500 per kilometre, with zone surcharges of IDR 55,000 for Seminyak and IDR 75,000 for Uluwatu or either Canggu zone. That put a Berawa or Tibubeneng ride at roughly IDR 195,000 before distance, about USD 10.88. Four years on, treat it as a reference point and ask at the counter. 11, 4

Is the Bali tourist levy charged per person or per trip?

Per person, not per booking or per family, and only once for the whole visit. The Love Bali system takes IDR 150,000 from each foreign visitor, not again if you pass back through a checkpoint after you have already paid, and it is checked at the airport among the other points the system uses. 16
