How much does a Komodo trip cost in 2026?

MORE LIFE. BETTER PLANNED.
Padar Island, Komodo National Park, East Nusa Tenggara. The ridge in this photograph is the scarcest ticket in the park: Padar Selatan is allowed 17,885 visitors a year, about 49 a day. 1 · Wigena · Source · CC BY-SA 4.0

A week in Komodo works out at about USD 484 for one foreign visitor, and the park ticket is the smallest line in it.

THE SHORT VERSION
  • The foreign entrance ticket is IDR 250,000 a person, about USD 13.95, and it costs the same on a Tuesday as on a Sunday. Indonesian visitors pay IDR 50,000 on a weekday. 2, 3
  • Every visitor should book ahead. Since 1 April 2026 the park has capped entry at 1,000 people a day and runs reservations, permits and site-by-site quota through its own SiOra platform. Neither source checked here confirms walk-up tickets have ended - SiOra's own resort pages still describe buying a ticket on site. Check your dates on SiOra before you count on buying at the gate. 4, 1
  • The boat is the budget. A shared cabin on a three-day, two-night liveaboard starts at USD 300 with one Labuan Bajo operator and USD 365 with another. A speedboat day trip to six stops starts at USD 81. 5, 6
  • A week for one foreign visitor comes to about USD 484: visa, return flights from Jakarta, park tickets, a ranger guide and a shared cabin. Swap the liveaboard for the day trip and it drops to about USD 265. 7, 8, 2, 9, 5, 3
  • Padar Selatan is the bottleneck. Its yearly allowance of 17,885 people works out at 49 a day, against 513 a day for Komodo Island. Fix that sunrise slot before anything else. 1

A week on the water, and what it charges

The boat leaves Labuan Bajo harbour before the heat arrives, and by mid-morning you are on the ridge above Padar Selatan. Three bays below, three colors of sand. Bank Indonesia liked the view enough to put it on the back of the Rp 50,000 note, so you can hold the picture in your hand while you stand in it. 4

Komodo National Park covers 173,300 hectares, and most of that is sea: 114,801 hectares of water against 58,499 of land, spread across at least 142 islands. 10 A week here is mostly a week afloat. Which is why the boat, and not the park ticket, decides what the trip costs.

What follows is the whole bill for one foreign visitor, priced on 26 September 2026 from the park authority, two Indonesian government sources, two Labuan Bajo operators and an airline's own booking screen. Rupiah figures convert at Bank Indonesia's JISDOR reference rate of Rp 17,917 to the dollar on 25 September 2026. 3

What is the Komodo National Park fee in 2026?

The entrance ticket, the diving ticket, the ranger guide and the odd extras, at the tariff that took effect on 30 October 2024.

A foreign visitor pays IDR 250,000, about USD 13.95, and that price holds all week. The weekday and weekend split applies only to the domestic ticket: Indonesian citizens pay IDR 50,000 midweek and IDR 75,000 at the weekend, and students pay half of each. 2, 3

Dollar figures convert at Bank Indonesia's JISDOR rate of Rp 17,917 per USD on 25 September 2026. Boat entry is charged to the vessel, so a liveaboard or day-boat operator carries that line. The park's own tariff page serves its price table as an image, so the ticket prices come from ANTARA News quoting that page; the guide fee comes from the park authority's own site. 3, 2, 9

The ranger guide is the line most people skip. The park's own guiding cooperative charges IDR 200,000 for a group of up to five at Loh Buaya on Rinca and at Gili Lawa Darat, and it keeps 50 naturalist guides on its books. Split five ways that is IDR 40,000 a head, about USD 2.23. 9, 3

Diving carries its own IDR 25,000 ticket per person on top of the entrance ticket, about USD 1.40. 2, 3 By the standards of protected reefs elsewhere that is small change, and MMT's guide to marine park and conservation fees sets it beside the rest.

Why the park now caps visitors at 1,000 a day

From 1 April 2026 Komodo National Park admits about 1,000 people a day, or 365,000 a year. Hendrikus Rani Siga, who heads the park authority, rests the limit on international carrying-capacity standards and Indonesia's 1990 conservation law. 1

The study behind the cap puts the park's yearly capacity at about 366,108 visitors. Three named sites account for 249,295 of that total: Komodo Island at 187,245 a year, Loh Buaya on Rinca at 44,165, and Padar Selatan at 17,885. 1

Divide those by 365 and the plan writes itself. Komodo Island can take 513 people a day. Loh Buaya takes 121. Padar Selatan takes 49. The sunrise ridge everyone wants is the scarcest thing in the park by a wide margin, and it is the booking to make first. 1

How much does a Komodo tour cost: liveaboard or day boat?

Two Labuan Bajo operators publish their starting prices and a third publishes a market range. This is what a place on the water costs.

A shared cabin on a three-day, two-night liveaboard starts at USD 300 per person on Malca with Komodo Luxury. Labuan Bajo Tours starts the same trip length at IDR 6,500,000, which its own site converts to USD 365, with cabin, meals, snorkel gear and crew included. Both bill park charges separately. 5, 6

At the other end sits the whole boat. Komodo Luxury quotes a private charter on Malca from USD 5,300 for two days and one night, for one to twelve guests. Labuan Bajo Tours charters a boat for three days and two nights from IDR 120,000,000, about USD 6,742 at the operator's own rate. 5, 6

Operators' published starting prices on the research date. The rupiah prices are converted by the operator itself at its own rate, which is why they read as USD 365 and USD 6,742 where Bank Indonesia's 25 September rate gives USD 362.78 and USD 6,697.55. A separate widget on Komodo Luxury's page opens a private yacht at USD 11,250 for four days and three nights, a longer trip than the USD 5,300 charter. 6, 5, 3

Per day, the named boats undercut the market range. USD 300 over three days is USD 100 a day, and USD 365 is USD 121.67. Another Labuan Bajo operator's own cost guide calls USD 220 to 550 a day typical, with luxury vessels above USD 900. Read the range as the ceiling and the published starting prices as the floor. 5, 6, 11

The newest boat on the route shows what the extra money buys. Ballona Phinisi launched in 2026 with eight ensuite cabins, a jacuzzi on the upper-deck balcony and a cap of 25 guests, running the same three-day loop past Padar, Pink Beach and the dragon sites. Its day-tour version starts at USD 337, four times the speedboat. 6

If you are weighing nights afloat against a bed on land, MMT's liveaboard versus shore diving comparison runs the same arithmetic for a dive trip anywhere in the world.

What does it cost to fly to Labuan Bajo?

Airfare is the one line with no published price. Every quote is a live screen for your dates. On 26 September 2026 AirAsia's own booking engine showed Jakarta to Labuan Bajo one-way from IDR 1,236,611, about USD 69.02, on a non-stop of around 2 hours 15 minutes. 8, 3

  • From Jakarta: Batik Air, Citilink, Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia and Super Air Jet. 12
  • From Denpasar: Batik Air and Indonesia AirAsia, the usual hop for anyone arriving through Bali. 12
  • From abroad: AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur and Scoot from Singapore. 12
  • Around Flores and the islands: Wings Air links Bajawa, Ende, Kupang, Lombok, Makassar, Maumere and Tambolaka. 12

The airport has grown into the traffic. A 2022 expansion took the runway to 2,650 meters and the terminal to 13,366 square meters, with the operator projecting room for 4 million passengers a year. It handled 1,017,995 in its most recent reported year, and gained international status on 2 April 2024. 12

A visa on arrival costs IDR 500,000, about USD 27.91, covers 30 days and extends once for another 30. Indonesia has sold it online as an e-VoA since 9 November 2022, so you can hold it before you land. 7, 3

Fares move and so does the rupiah. MMT's exchange-rate stress test shows what a ten percent swing does to a budget like this one, and the Indonesia country guide covers arrival across the rest of the islands.

What does a Labuan Bajo budget for a week look like?

One foreign visitor, seven nights, return flights from Jakarta, a shared cabin on a three-day liveaboard.

Add the lines and a week comes to IDR 8,663,322, about USD 483.53. The boat is 62 percent of that. Everything the Indonesian government charges, visa included, comes to USD 45.49, under a tenth of the week. 5, 8, 7, 2, 9, 3

Swap the shared cabin for that day trip and the week falls to about USD 264.53. Swap it for a private charter and the boat alone passes USD 5,300, split among however many people you bring. Twelve of you makes it USD 441.67 each. 6, 5

Komodo village, and who decides what happens here

About 2,000 Ata Modo live in Komodo village, in roughly 800 families, and they run the island's tourism themselves. The park authority's own visitor system puts it plainly: tourism activity in the village is arranged by residents. Most families fish, and others work as park rangers. 13, 4

Residents have also organised against plans made about them. In August 2019 they protested a government proposal to move them off the island and turn it into an exclusive tourism zone. In 2020 civil-society groups petitioned UNESCO to press Indonesia to revoke corporate nature-tourism concessions covering parts of Rinca, Padar and Komodo Island. 14

Flores, where you land, is Manggarai country. Wae Rebo sits at about 1,200 meters in Satar Lenda, Manggarai Regency, with seven round Niang houses holding seven or eight families each, and which UNESCO recognized in 2012 as a world cultural heritage. It is a living village with its own visitor rules, and the fees there are the community's to set. 15

What should you book before you fly?

Three things need to exist before you buy a flight: a park reservation, a visa and a boat with a confirmed departure date. In that order, because the park reservation is the one with a daily cap on it. 4, 1

  1. Check the quota on SiOra

The park's own platform shows availability by site and handles both reservations and permits. Start with Padar Selatan, at 49 people a day. 4, 1

  2. Hold your e-VoA

IDR 500,000, about USD 27.91, good for 30 days and extendable once by another 30. Apply online before you fly. 7, 3

  3. Book the boat and read the invoice

Both operators priced here bill park charges apart from the fare. Ask for the fare, the park tickets and the guide fee as three separate lines before you pay a deposit. 5, 6

  4. Add the ranger guide to your group

IDR 200,000 covers up to five people at Loh Buaya and Gili Lawa Darat, from the park's own cooperative of 50 naturalist guides. 9

  5. Book the flight last

Fares to Labuan Bajo move daily and every airline quotes live. Once the park date and the boat date are fixed, the flight is the easy part. 8

Frequently asked questions

Does the IDR 250,000 park ticket cover more than one day?

Not stated here. The government breakdown behind this page's prices doesn't say whether the ticket is charged per entry or covers a multi-day visit, and SiOra prices bookings by the traveler's actual dates rather than by a published rule. Check the total SiOra shows for your dates before you assume one ticket carries you through a multi-day stop. 2, 4

Is a ranger guide compulsory in Komodo National Park?

Not confirmed here. The park's own guiding cooperative charges IDR 200,000, about USD 11.16, for a group of up to five at Loh Buaya on Rinca and at Gili Lawa Darat, but neither source used for this page states whether hiring one is required to enter those sites, or any other. Ask your operator or the ranger post when you arrive. 9, 3

Why does this page use Bank Indonesia's rate?

Because the Federal Reserve's weekly H.10 release leaves the rupiah out entirely. Bank Indonesia's own JISDOR reference rate fills the gap at Rp 17,917 per USD on 25 September 2026. 3

Is a Komodo liveaboard worth it over day trips?

Count the days you want on the water. A speedboat day trip to six stops starts at USD 81; three days and two nights in a shared cabin start at USD 300, which is USD 100 a day. The liveaboard buys sunrise on Padar before the day boats arrive. 6, 5

How many people does it take to bring a private charter within reach of a shared cabin?

Twelve, and it still costs more per person. Komodo Luxury charters Malca from USD 5,300 for two days and one night, for one to twelve guests, which is USD 441.67 each at full capacity - still above the USD 300 shared-cabin rate for a longer three-day trip, but the closest the charter gets. Below twelve the gap widens fast. 5

What do liveaboard and charter prices leave out?

The park entrance ticket, the diving ticket and the ranger guide. Both Komodo Luxury and Labuan Bajo Tours price the boat itself and bill park charges as a separate line, so ask for the fare, the park tickets and the guide fee as three items on the invoice before you pay a deposit. Hotel nights in Labuan Bajo, food and drinks ashore, transfers and tips sit outside these prices too. 5, 6

Where are you most likely to see a Komodo dragon?

The 2022 monitoring count cited by the park puts about 60 dragons around Loh Buaya on Rinca, 49 at Loh Liang on Komodo Island and 26 on Padar Selatan. Rinca and Komodo Island are the two visitor areas built around sightings. Padar is a climb and a view. 4

How long can I stay on a visa on arrival?

Thirty days, extendable once for another 30, at IDR 500,000, about USD 27.91. The e-VoA has been available online since 9 November 2022. A fee increase was reported in August 2026 and has yet to be confirmed as adopted, so check the price on the day you apply. 7, 3
