Spain travel guide
Choose a Spain route with room for art, palaces and long meals, using a 10-night rail plan and dated prices to make the bookings fit.
- Choose one main route: Madrid and Andalusia, Barcelona and Valencia, the Basque coast, or an island stay. Leave room for meals and unbooked afternoons.
- For the centre and south, give it 10 nights: Madrid 3, Seville 3, Córdoba 1 and Granada 3, with Madrid to Seville about 2 hours 30 minutes by high-speed train. 1
- Make the Alhambra your anchor reservation. Tickets name the visitor, require original ID and assign a binding Nasrid Palaces entry time. 2
- Madrid's three-museum pass saves EUR 8.20 against three full-price general tickets on 24 September 2026, provided you want all three and their included exhibitions suit your plans. 3, 4, 5

Which part of Spain should you choose?
A Madrid morning at the Prado can lead to tapas in La Latina. Barcelona pairs Gaudí buildings with the sea. In Andalusia, build the days around the Alcázar, Córdoba's Mosque-Cathedral and the Alhambra. Choose the places that draw you in, then use the routes and prices below to shape the trip. 16, 17, 18
| Trip | Nights | Main draw |
|---|---|---|
| Madrid and Andalusia | 10 | Art and palaces |
| Barcelona and Valencia | 7-9 | Architecture, markets and sea |
| Bilbao and San Sebastián | 6-8 | Art, pintxos and coastal walks |
| One island | 7 | Beaches and countryside from one base |
Madrid and Andalusia: allow for hotel changes and protect the Alhambra date. Barcelona and Valencia: leave time for the transfer and each city. Bilbao and San Sebastián: keep outdoor days flexible for rain. One island: choose it before the hotel. These are alternative trips; combining them needs more time and new transport, lodging and airport checks.
Madrid and the south
Madrid suits a traveller who wants museums without filling every hour indoors. Pair one gallery with Las Letras or a park afternoon. Seville, Córdoba and Granada then give the trip a different focus: palace grounds, religious buildings and historic neighbourhoods. Choose this route when those places matter more than adding a beach. 16, 17
Barcelona and Valencia
Barcelona gives architecture lovers Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, with Montjuïc and the waterfront between visits. Pick the buildings that interest you most before buying tickets. A day with one interior and a long walk leaves more time to notice the city around it. 18
Valencia offers a different sequence: the Silk Exchange and Central Market, then the Turia gardens, with Albufera as an excursion. Give it its own stay. If you mainly want markets, meals and outdoor time, consider spending more nights here instead of treating it as a brief stop after Barcelona. 20

The Basque coast
Bilbao's Guggenheim and old town make a useful pairing: contemporary art on one day, streets around Plaza Nueva and pintxos on another. San Sebastián brings La Concha beach into the centre of the visit. Choose these two bases when food and coastal walks deserve as much time as museums. 21, 22
Rioja Alavesa adds a wine interest to a Basque trip. Treat it as a deliberate extension with its own transport arrangements. Keeping the basic plan to Bilbao and San Sebastián gives you space to change an outdoor day when the weather turns. 19, 7
An island as the whole holiday
For a Balearic stay, Menorca offers sandy coves, marked countryside routes and Ciutadella's old town. In winter, consider the Canary Islands for milder conditions than much of the mainland. Choose the island around the walks, towns and beach days you want, then compare places to stay near them. 23, 7
Menorca also suits a walking holiday. The Camí de Cavalls follows the coast for 185 kilometres, split into 20 stretches, so choose a section that fits your pace and arrange the journey back before setting out. A cove walk and a town afternoon make a different holiday from moving between mainland museums. 24
Make a short list with everyone travelling: one place each person most wants to see, one activity worth reserving, and one thing to leave out. If Portugal or Italy is also on that list, read the Portugal travel guide or the Italy travel guide before adding another border and hotel change.
When is the best time to visit Spain?
Match the season to your walking plans. Spain's official weather guidance identifies spring and autumn as the mildest seasons. July and August are hottest, while the north is generally cooler and wetter than inland and southern areas. For a first trip built around city walks, start by comparing spring and autumn dates. 7
| Season or region | Good planning choice | Leave room for |
|---|---|---|
| Spring or autumn | City walks and the centre-and-south route | Rain or a warm spell on your actual dates |
| Inland and southern summer | Earlier outdoor visits and indoor breaks | Heat that changes how much walking is sensible |
| Northern summer | Coastal walks with flexible museum days | Cooler, wetter conditions |
| Mainland winter | A trip with plenty of indoor interests | Winter layers and a weather check |
| Canary Islands in winter | A milder-weather island stay | Local forecasts for beach days |
Choose refundable options where weather would determine whether you enjoy the activity.
Once you have dates, sketch a hot-day version and a wet-day version of the itinerary. Put the most important outdoor visit where you have another chance to attempt it. Keep an indoor alternative near your base, rather than spending a poor-weather day crossing the city for a replacement plan.
- For the south in summer, leave the longest street walk for a cooler part of the day. Pair it with a nearby indoor visit and a proper rest, checking opening times before you commit to the sequence.
- For the northern coast, choose which outdoor outing matters most and keep another day available for it. A fixed museum booking still needs its place in the plan, so avoid filling every fair-weather window before you arrive.
- For a winter island stay, decide what would make the trip worthwhile if a beach day falls through. Compare nearby walks, places to eat and the comfort of the room as well as the view from its balcony.

A 10-night route from Madrid to Granada
Give the centre and south the whole trip. This suggested route uses Madrid for arrival and art, then gives Seville and Granada several nights each. Córdoba gets an overnight so you can put down your bags before visiting. Reserve the Alhambra, check the transfers, then fit the hotels around those dates. 16, 17, 2, 26, 27
- 01
- 02
- 03Córdoba1 night
Visit the Mosque-Cathedral and historic centre without making the whole stop depend on same-day luggage arrangements. 17
→ Check the actual onward rail itinerary to Granada, including any connection, before committing to the overnight. - 04
With less time: With eight nights, use Madrid 2, Seville 3 and Granada 3, removing Córdoba as an overnight. Check the revised Seville-Granada journey before booking. Add Barcelona only with more time or a flight arrangement that makes the extra transfer worthwhile.
Three nights in a city normally gives you two full days between arrival and departure. Decide what those days are for before adding excursions. In Madrid, spread the galleries you choose across the stay. In Seville, keep one part of the day free after a major visit. In Granada, leave flexibility around the timed palace entry.
Córdoba is the route's deliberate short stop. Ask the accommodation about storing bags before check-in and after checkout. If the train times leave too little usable time, remove the stop or add a night. A room reservation alone does not make a stop practical.

Compare flying into Madrid and departing after Granada with a return through Madrid. Include the final transfer, any extra hotel night and the time needed before the flight. Choose the version that leaves a comfortable departure day, even if the airfare alone points the other way.
Book the visits that decide your dates
Start with the Alhambra if it is central to the trip. The general daytime visit includes the Nasrid Palaces, Partal, Alcazaba and Generalife. Its named ticket requires original ID, and the Nasrid entry time is binding. Put that time into the itinerary before arranging the rest of the Granada day. 28, 2
- Check availability on the official attraction page and choose the exact visit product. Read what is included before comparing sellers.
- Enter visitor names carefully. For the Alhambra, carry the original passport or ID required for admission. 2
- Match the reservation to your arrival date and accommodation. Leave space for reaching the entrance and dealing with bags.
- Save the confirmation offline and check the operator's instructions again before the visit.
At Sagrada Família, choose between the basilica visit and the tower product on the basis of access and interest. The base ticket includes the museum and an app audioguide; the towers and crypt are excluded. Tickets are named and timed, and official photo ID is required. Download the app beforehand and bring earphones. 29
The tower visit involves going up by lift and coming down stairs. It is excluded for visitors with reduced mobility. Check tower operation and any closures before selecting it; the more expensive product is only useful if that extra experience suits everyone in your party. 30
For Madrid, choose the exhibitions first and the ticket second. Reina Sofía closes on Tuesdays and uses timed admission before its free-access periods. Put each museum's actual opening day into your plan before buying a combined pass. 4
How should you plan your first day?
Choose the transfer for your actual address. Madrid's airport bus, Metro and fixed-fare taxi have different scopes. Barcelona's airport Metro ticket has its own rules too. Save the accommodation address and check-in instructions before leaving home, then decide how you will cover the last part of the journey. 11, 31, 32, 12, 13
Get connected and check the terminal
Use your arranged roaming or an available airport Wi-Fi connection. Confirm the terminal, accommodation address and arrival instructions. Keep an offline copy so the next step does not depend on a working phone connection.
Settle into the accommodation
If the room is unavailable, ask about bag storage. Confirm how to enter later, locate the next morning's departure point and choose somewhere nearby for food.
Keep the evening simple
Take a short walk if you feel ready. Leave the next day's transit purchase until you know how much you intend to use it, rather than buying a pass while tired.
| Product | Price in EUR |
|---|---|
| Madrid Airport Express | 5.00 |
| Madrid airport Metro: Zone A single | 4.50-5.00 |
| Madrid official-rank taxi: inside M-30 | 33.00 |
| Barcelona airport Metro single | 5.90 |
| Barcelona one-zone T-casual | 13.00 |
Madrid Express: per passenger, one bus ride; onward travel costs extra. Madrid Metro: per passenger, EUR 1.50-2.00 base fare by station count plus EUR 3.00 airport supplement; card purchase costs extra. Madrid taxi: per vehicle between the airport and an address inside M-30, with no supplements; other destinations fall outside this fare. Barcelona airport Metro: per passenger, one Metro journey involving an airport station. T-casual: one person, 10 journeys; invalid at Aeroport T1 and T2 Metro stations. Fares are in local currency with no conversion. Card or ticket-support purchase costs are excluded where applicable.
In Barcelona, L9 Sud serves both airport terminals, but much of the centre requires a change of line. TMB gives about 32 minutes for the airport Metro journey toward the city network. Add the time for your interchange and the walk from the final station to your hotel. 12
Compare the fare for the whole party. Bus and Metro prices here apply per passenger, while the Madrid airport taxi amount covers the vehicle within the stated zone. Bags, steps and the final walk also matter. Check that your group and luggage fit before choosing a taxi, and keep the accommodation's late-arrival contact handy. 11, 31, 32
If you arrive before check-in, choose a simple walk near the property after dropping your bags. First find the door. Save the building entrance as well as its street address, and agree on a meeting point with companions in case your phones fail to connect. Keep passports and tickets with you when storing luggage.
Use trains for the main cities
Plan the whole transfer, from room to room. Spain's high-speed rail links make major-city combinations practical. A train duration leaves out checkout, reaching the station and the journey to your next lodging. Keep those tasks in the same calendar block instead of squeezing a timed visit into both ends. 1
| From Madrid to | Approximate train time | Planning use |
|---|---|---|
| Barcelona | 2 hours 30 minutes | Compare a two-city holiday with a longer regional circuit |
| Seville | 2 hours 30 minutes | Main connection for the centre-and-south itinerary |
| Valencia | 1 hour 40 minutes | Alternative city-and-coast extension |
Journey times as published by Spain.info. Station access, waiting and onward local travel are excluded.
Renfe lists Madrid-Seville services between Puerta de Atocha and Santa Justa. Some tickets include a Combinado Cercanías journey; check your fare before buying a separate local connection. The Seville-Córdoba route offers several train types, so compare the actual departure, conditions and total price. 26, 27
- Read the departure station on the ticket, then save the correct entrance and route from your accommodation.
- Compare luggage allowances, changes and cancellation terms for the exact fare you are buying.
- Request any assistance through the operator and confirm arrangements for each leg.
- Save the ticket offline and leave the transfer day light enough to handle disruption.
Consider a car when you have named rural stops that justify it. Price the entire rental, ask about parking at each base and check the driving requirements for your licence. For the city sequence here, first see whether the dated train options meet your needs before adding car collection and return tasks.
If France follows Spain, use the France travel guide to choose the next base before buying the border-crossing journey. Check temporary border controls and carry the required documents even when travelling within Schengen. 9
Choose lodging around the day you want
A useful address earns its place every morning. Plot the attractions you have chosen and the station you will use. Compare the walk and transport needed from each property. If you plan to return for a rest, assess that midday journey as carefully as the distance from the airport.
| Choice | Useful when | Ask before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel with a staffed reception | You want help with arrival and bags | Reception hours, late arrival and luggage storage |
| Apartment with a kitchen | Meal flexibility matters to your group | Legal status, exact facilities, access and full charges |
| Guesthouse or small property | The location and individual room suit you | Private bathroom, stairs and check-in arrangements |
| Beach or rural base | Most activities are near that location | Transport for meals, excursions and departure |
Before paying, get the room details, arrival arrangements and full price in writing. For an apartment, check its legal status with the local authority and read all charges and cancellation terms.
- For the Madrid museum stay, compare each room's route to the galleries you plan to enter. A short walk to a favourite museum is worth more to that trip than a central label on a booking page. 16
- For the Córdoba overnight, make bag storage part of the choice. Ask when you can leave luggage and when you must collect it, then set those answers beside the train times before paying for the room.
- For Barcelona or Valencia, decide how often you want the beach and how often you want the historic centre. Plot both from the actual address; a property that suits one part of the trip needs checking against the other. 18, 20
- For an island base, check the return journey from the meals and walks you have chosen. If that journey needs a car, include parking and rental arrangements before comparing the property with somewhere closer to your plans.
In Madrid, compare addresses against the art museums and the neighbourhoods you want to visit, such as Las Letras or La Latina. For Granada, use both the Alhambra visit and your Albaicín plans when assessing a base. Ask the property to explain the actual approach with luggage rather than relying only on a map pin. 16, 17
For a summer stay, ask whether the booked room has cooling and how it operates. For a quiet stay, ask which way the room faces. If sleep matters more than a view, make that request clearly before paying. Keep the reply with your reservation details.
With children or limited mobility, ask for specifics: steps from pavement to reception, lift size, bathroom layout and the room you will receive. Request photographs or measurements where needed. A broad accessibility filter is only the start of that conversation.
Barcelona's city guidance asks visitors to use legal tourist accommodation, follow occupancy conditions and avoid disturbing residents. Ask for the property's registration details and check them through the relevant local authority. Include mandatory charges, cleaning and cancellation terms when comparing the final quote. 33
A kitchen is useful when you expect to cook, store breakfast or manage meal times around children. Ask what is supplied and where you would shop. If you expect to eat every meal out, compare the apartment's space and check-in terms with a room that gives you the services you will actually use.
What should you allow for costs?
Build the spending plan from your own bookings. Start with room quotes for your dates, then add the journeys and visits you actually want. Keep meals, local transport and a reserve separate. The fixed prices below help with specific choices; they are too narrow to stand in for a national daily budget.
| Visit | Price in EUR |
|---|---|
| Alhambra daytime general | 22.27 |
| Sagrada Família base visit | 26.00 |
| Sagrada Família with one tower | 36.00 |
Alhambra: Nasrid Palaces, Partal, Alcazaba and Generalife; bring original ID for the named ticket and keep the assigned Nasrid entry time. Sagrada Família base: basilica, museum and app audioguide; towers and crypt excluded. Tower product: basilica visit, app audioguide and one tower; lift ascent and stair descent, excluded for reduced-mobility visitors, and no refund if the towers are closed. Prices exclude concessions, guided tours and transport. Prices in euros, no conversion. 2, 29, 30
Spain uses the euro. Visa and Mastercard acceptance is widespread, though some businesses ask for a minimum card spend of around EUR 10. Carry a modest cash reserve and a backup payment method. Tipping is not obligatory, because the service charge is included, but it is common in bars, restaurants, hotels and taxis, usually 5 to 10% of the bill. 6
Before departure, read your own card's foreign-payment and withdrawal terms. When a terminal or ATM offers a conversion, compare the displayed rate and charges with your card terms before accepting. Keep receipts for larger purchases and check transactions while the details are still fresh.
Does Madrid's art pass save money?
Yes, if you want all three museums at full price. The September 2026 comparison uses EUR 15 for the Prado, EUR 12 for Reina Sofía and EUR 14 for Thyssen-Bornemisza. Together they cost EUR 41. The Paseo del Arte pass costs EUR 32.80, a difference of EUR 8.20. 3, 4, 5, 34
Table view: Madrid art museums: separate tickets versus pass
| Item | Value (EUR per adult) |
|---|---|
| Three separate tickets | 41 EUR per adult |
| Paseo del Arte pass | 32.80 EUR per adult |
Inputs: Prado 15 + Reina Sofía 12 + Thyssen 14 = 41. Saving: 41 - 32.80 = 8.20, or 20% of 41. Source: 3, 4, 5, 34
| Purchase | Total in EUR | Saving in EUR |
|---|---|---|
| Three separate general tickets | 41.00 | 0.00 |
| Paseo del Arte pass | 32.80 | 8.20 |
One full-price adult admission to each museum. Excludes audioguides, guided tours, transport, free-entry periods and eligibility-based reductions. No exchange-rate conversion. The pass covers permanent collections and some temporary exhibitions; individual general tickets have their own exhibition coverage.
The pass allows one visit to each museum within a year of purchase. That leaves room to spread the visits out. Check the exhibitions you want before treating the products as equivalent, especially if a temporary show is the reason for going. 5
At the Prado, the final two opening hours give free collection access, subject to capacity. Temporary exhibitions receive 50% off the applicable general or reduced admission in that period. These evening offers exclude 6 January and 24 and 31 December, when hours are shorter. Check your date and exhibition before buying; special exhibition terms can change the offer. 3, 34
Let food help choose the route
Order with the region in mind. Valencia gives you a reason to seek out paella; the Basque Country, pintxos; Andalusia, gazpacho and salmorejo; the Canaries, papas arrugadas with mojo. Choose a few meals you are curious about and give them proper space in the day. 35, 36, 37
| Where | Start with |
|---|---|
| Valencia | Valencian paella |
| Bilbao | Pintxos |
| Andalusia | Gazpacho or salmorejo |
| Catalonia | Escalivada |
| Canary Islands | Papas arrugadas with mojo |
Valencian paella: the listed version includes chicken and rabbit; ask about ingredients and serving size. Bilbao pintxos: bought separately; check each price. Salmorejo: contains bread and can have egg and ham garnish. Escalivada: ask about preparation and additions. Canary potatoes: ask which mojo comes with them. For allergies or dietary needs, confirm ingredients, toppings and cross-contact with the kitchen.
Spain.info places typical lunch service around 13:00-16:00 and dinner around 20:00-23:30. Plan the museum exit or train arrival with that in mind. If you need to eat earlier, identify a suitable option before the day begins and check its kitchen hours. 14
A pintxos evening in Bilbao works well as a series of small choices. Look at the display, ask how to order, and decide whether you want another item before moving on. Pintxos are purchased separately, so budget for each bite as well as the drinks. 36
Vegetable dishes still need a conversation when you have an allergy or strict dietary requirement. The official salmorejo recipe includes bread and suggests egg and ham as garnish. Ask about both the base and toppings, then ask separately about preparation if cross-contact matters to you. 38
For a market visit, decide whether you want to shop, eat or simply look around, and leave room for people doing their usual purchases. Valencia's Central Market and Bilbao's La Ribera Market are useful places to include in a food-focused day. Check the day's opening hours before making either your only meal plan. 20, 21
Choose the main meal before filling the rest of a travel day. If a train lands during lunch service, find a place near the new base and check bag storage first. For a late arrival, ask the lodging about nearby kitchens still serving at that hour. This makes a welcome meal part of the plan instead of another task after dark. 14
When sharing, ask how large each dish is and agree on the first order before adding more. Keep drinks in the same spending plan as food. For pintxos, watch the separate items accumulate; for paella, ask how the restaurant prices the serving. Reading those details together makes it easier to choose a meal everyone wants. 35, 36
Do you need a visa or ETIAS for Spain?
Check the rules for your nationality and residence status. For covered non-EU short-stay visitors, the limit is 90 days within any 180-day period across Schengen. The usual covered passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years and remain valid at least three months beyond intended departure. 8, 9
| Check | Planning step |
|---|---|
| Visa | Check nationality and status |
| Passport and papers | Check validity and trip evidence |
| EES | Check coverage and exemptions |
| ETIAS | Recheck launch before travel |
Visa: your nationality and status determine whether you need one before travel. Passport and papers: check validity and carry evidence of your visit, accommodation and onward plans. EES: covered non-EU short-stay travellers have passport and biometric data recorded at external borders. ETIAS: the Commission notice checked on 24 September 2026 schedules launch for the final quarter of 2026, with the exact date pending. Apply each rule to your own status and departure date.
The Commission states that EES has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. EU, Icelandic, Liechtenstein, Norwegian and Swiss nationals are outside its registration scope. Check the official exemptions if you hold a residence document or another status that changes how you cross the border. 39
As checked on 24 September 2026, ETIAS has a planned launch window but no exact start date on the Commission notice. Check the official EES and ETIAS explanation again before departure, especially for travel later in 2026. 10
For a longer European holiday, count the whole Schengen itinerary together. Adding Portugal or France does not create a separate Spanish allowance. Temporary internal-border checks are possible, so keep the necessary documents accessible throughout the trip. 9
Plan access for each visit
Ask about the exact route through the place. A city or attraction can offer accessible facilities while a particular entrance, tower or path remains unsuitable. Start with the experiences you want, then confirm the entrance, surfaces, toilets and assistance needed to enjoy them.
| Place | Access planning |
|---|---|
| Prado, Madrid | Adapted facilities and disability admission |
| Sagrada Família base | Reduced-mobility access |
| Sagrada Família towers | Lift up; stairs down |
| Alhambra, Granada | Check surfaces and steps |
| Córdoba station | Request help for your train |
Prado: free admission and priority access for visitors with disabilities; lifts, ramps, accessible toilets and wheelchair loans. Confirm eligibility documents, entrance and assistance. Sagrada Família base: accessible for reduced mobility; disability and companion concessions require proof. Confirm the correct ticket and arrival arrangements. Towers: excluded for reduced-mobility visitors; choose the base visit if stairs are unsuitable. Alhambra: cobbles, uneven surfaces and steps; ask for a route through your chosen areas. Córdoba station: Renfe describes reduced-mobility adaptation; confirm help for the specific train. Recheck facilities and concessions, including lift outages, maintenance and route closures.
The Prado also lists sign guides and audio description. Its services give you concrete questions to ask when planning, including whether a wheelchair or other support needs arranging. Use the Prado accessible-visit page before choosing the day's timing. 40
At the Alhambra, avoid assuming that one accessible entrance means access to the full site. Ask the operator to map the route against your needs. Families should also note that pushchairs are prohibited in the Nasrid Palaces and Generalife palace, and plan how to manage those parts. 2
Spain.info's accessible-culture overview includes Barcelona Cathedral, Park Güell and adapted Montjuïc cable-car cabins. Treat those as leads for a visit, then check the relevant operator for current lift service, entrances and closures. Confirm the journey from your accommodation as well as the attraction itself. 41
Stay well and be a considerate guest
Protect the ordinary parts of the day. Official advice highlights distraction theft, particularly around crowds and transport. Keep bags closed and visible, separate your backup payment method from your main wallet, and pause somewhere suitable before opening documents or studying directions. 15, 25, 33
- At stations and airports, keep sight of luggage while buying tickets or asking for help. 33
- At beaches, follow the flags and lifeguards. A red flag means stay out of the water. 25
- During heat or wildfire alerts, check local instructions before setting out and change the plan when conditions demand it. 25
- For an emergency, call 112. The service is free nationwide and has multilingual translation support. 15
Pharmacies are marked by green crosses. Private medical centres charge for care. Check what healthcare cover applies to you and carry the necessary documentation; conditional EHIC, GHIC or bilateral entitlement does not replace travel insurance or repatriation cover. Ask your insurer how to obtain help before you need it. 42
Spanish, or Castilian, is official across the country, and Catalan, Galician, Basque and Valencian are co-official in their own regions. Pay attention to the names used locally and ask how to pronounce them. Let residents describe their own place and identity rather than expecting one national account to fit every region. 43
Barcelona's guidance asks visitors to moderate noise, respect residents' sleep and keep public spaces clean. Apply that care wherever you stay: keep shared entrances clear, talk quietly when returning late and follow the accommodation's occupancy rules. A residential street remains someone's home during your holiday. 33
At places of worship, follow the host's dress and conduct rules. Sagrada Família specifically requires appropriate dress and checks personal items at entry. Read the instructions with your ticket so the group arrives prepared, and ask before photographing people at close range. 29
Spain travel questions, answered.
Find the practical detail you need, or browse by topic.
How many days do you need for a first Spain trip?
The suggested centre-and-south route takes 10 nights. With a week, choose fewer bases, such as Barcelona and Valencia, or one main city with an excursion. Pick the places that matter to you before deciding how many hotel changes to make.
Should you combine Madrid, Barcelona and Andalusia?
Only if the available time supports the transfers. For the 10-night route here, keep Madrid and Andalusia together. Add Barcelona when you can extend the stay or arrange flights that make the extra journey worthwhile.
Is ETIAS required for Spain in September 2026?
Does the Schengen allowance restart when you enter Spain?
No. For covered short-stay visitors, the 90-day allowance within any 180-day period applies across the Schengen itinerary. Time in France or Portugal belongs in the same calculation. Your nationality and residence status can affect the rules that apply. 9
Can you use T-casual at Barcelona airport?
Is Madrid's museum pass worth buying?
What must you bring to the Alhambra?
Bring the original passport or ID required for your named ticket, and reach the Nasrid Palaces at the ticket's assigned time. Check the visit instructions before leaving your accommodation. A photograph of the document does not meet the stated original-document requirement. 2
Is Sagrada Família wheelchair accessible?
What time do people eat dinner in Spain?
Official visitor guidance places typical restaurant dinner service around 20:00-23:30. Individual kitchens differ. For an early meal or a late arrival, check a specific restaurant's service times instead of relying on general opening hours. 14
Do you need to tip in Spain?
No, it is not obligatory: Spain.info says the service charge is included. Tipping is still common in bars, restaurants, hotels and taxis, usually 5 to 10% of the bill. Carry some cash for small purchases, since some businesses ask for a minimum card spend of around EUR 10. 6
