Two payments, two governments
The plane lands at Ngurah Rai just after dawn, and the month you planned begins with two separate payments. One belongs to Indonesia's immigration service: the visa on arrival, IDR 500,000, good for 30 days from the date you touch down. 1 The other belongs to the province of Bali: a one-time tourist levy of IDR 150,000, in force since midnight on 14 February 2024. 2
Different governments. Different websites. Different receipts. Most people meet the second one late, at a checkpoint or a hotel desk, long after the visa question felt settled. Both take about ten minutes online, days before you fly.
Here is the whole bill for a month, and for the 60 days a month often becomes. On 25 September 2026 the visa, one extension and the levy added up to IDR 1,150,000, about USD 64 at Bank Indonesia's reference rate of IDR 17,917 to the dollar. 1, 3, 2, 4
How does the Bali visa on arrival work?
One fee, one stay length, and two dates that people mix up.
One visa, IDR 500,000, 30 days from the day you land. Indonesia calls it the Visitor Visa. Buy it online before departure and it arrives as an e-VOA. Take it at the counter at Ngurah Rai and it is the classic visa on arrival. Same fee, same 30 days. 1
Two dates matter here. The visa itself stays valid for 90 days, and that is your window to enter Indonesia. The stay it grants runs 30 days from your arrival date. 1 Buy in July, land in September, and you still get the full 30 days.
Eligibility runs wide. Citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and every ASEAN state can apply. 1 Entry points cover 16 airports, 95 seaports and 11 land crossings. 3
- The passport biodata page, a passport-style photograph and an email address. The application asks for those three things. 1
- A credit card: Mastercard, Visa or JCB. The card can carry someone else's name, and the payment has to finish inside 120 minutes once you reach that page. 1
- Six months of passport validity counted from your arrival date, under Article 22(1)(b) of Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation 44 of 2015. 1
- One visa per traveler, infants included, even when a child travels on a parent's passport. 1

How do I get 60 days in Bali?
Thirty days is what you land with. Sixty takes one extension, bought inside Indonesia. The visa on arrival extends exactly once, for another 30 days, for another IDR 500,000. That is the ceiling: 60 days, then you leave or move to a different visa. 3
The extension happens at an immigration office in Indonesia, so it belongs in the middle of the month's plan. Give it a free morning, keep the passport somewhere you can hand it over, and start by day 23.
A 31st day without the extension costs IDR 1,000,000, about USD 56 at the 25 September 2026 rate, for every day past the stamp. 1, 4 Go more than 60 days over and the penalties move past money: detention, deportation and a ban on returning to Indonesia for a set period. 1
What is the Bali tourist levy of 150,000 rupiah?
A provincial charge, separate from the visa, paid before you fly.
IDR 150,000, once, per foreign visitor. Bali's provincial government launched the levy at 00:00 WITA on 14 February 2024, under Law 15 of 2023 on Bali Province, Regional Regulation 6 of 2023 and Governor Regulation 2 of 2024. 2, 5 In Indonesian it is the Pungutan Wisatawan Asing, the foreign tourist levy.
Pay it cashless before departure, through the province's Love Bali system. 2 What comes back is a voucher with a QR code. Save it to your phone and to your email, because you will want it at a gate with a bag in each hand.
The amount held at IDR 150,000 through mid-May 2026, when the province reported IDR 114 billion collected against a IDR 500 billion target for the year. 6
Checks reach well past the airport. Bali's tourism office says the voucher is checked at tourist destinations, at accommodations and at other places foreign visitors go, and it has run monitoring in person at Uluwatu. 7 Dress rules at Bali's temples belong to the temples themselves; MMT's Ubud temples guide covers what they ask of visitors.
Seven groups skip the levy under Article 6 of Governor Regulation 2 of 2024. 5
- Diplomatic and official visa holders.
- Transport crew (aircraft, ship or other conveyance).
- KITAS and KITAP holders, the temporary and permanent stay permits.
- Family-reunification visa holders.
- Student visa holders.
- Golden visa holders, by advance application.
- Holders of other visa types, by advance application.
Age is absent from that list. A two-year-old pays the same IDR 150,000 as an adult. 5 An exemption request goes through the Love Bali system at least five days before you reach Bali, and the tourism department answers within three days of receiving it. 5

What does entry to Bali cost for a month?
Per person, in rupiah first, with dollars at Bank Indonesia's own reference rate.
Two payments cover a 30-day trip. Three cover 60 days. Every figure below is per person. The dollar column uses Bank Indonesia's JISDOR reference rate of IDR 17,917 to the dollar on 25 September 2026, the rate the country publishes for itself. 4
| Payment | Charged by | Amount (IDR) | Amount (USD) | What it buys |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Visa on arrival / e-VOA | Directorate General of Immigration | 500,000 | 27.91 | 30 days from the arrival date |
| One extension | An immigration office in Indonesia | 500,000 | 27.91 | 30 more days, available once |
| Bali tourist levy | Bali provincial government | 150,000 | 8.37 | Entry to Bali, charged once |
| Through day 60 | Both governments | 1,150,000 | 64.18 | The full government bill |
A straight 30-day trip pays the first and third lines only: IDR 650,000, about USD 36.28. Arithmetic on the sourced figures: 500,000 + 500,000 + 150,000 = 1,150,000, and 1,150,000 divided by 17,917 = 64.18. Excludes flights, airport transfers, a SIM and anywhere you sleep.
Table view: What each Bali entry payment costs, in US dollars
| Item | Value (USD) |
|---|---|
| Bali tourist levy, one time | $8.37 |
| Visa on arrival, 30 days | $27.91 |
| Extension, 30 more days | $27.91 |
| One day of overstay | $55.81 |
A single day past the stamp costs twice what the visa cost. The extension is the cheap fix, and it has to happen while the first 30 days are still running. Source: 1, 3, 2, 4
What do I do before I fly?
Three things happen online, days before the airport, and one of them is newer than most advice on the internet.
Buy the e-VOA, up to 90 days ahead
The portal wants the passport page, a photograph, an email address and a Mastercard, Visa or JCB card. Finish the payment inside 120 minutes of reaching that step. 1
Pay the Bali levy through Love Bali
IDR 150,000 per person, cashless, before you leave for Bali. Keep the QR voucher on your phone and in your email. 2
File the All Indonesia declaration
Since 1 October 2025 every international arrival files one combined declaration covering immigration, customs, health and quarantine, on the site or in the app, up to three days ahead. It returns a QR code the airport scans. 8
Check the passports, all of them
Six months of validity counted from the arrival date, one visa each, infants included. 1
With entry settled, the month is a question of where you put your base. MMT's Indonesia travel guide sets the island choices, Canggu coworking costs price a working month in the south, and a diving month in Amed prices the quiet east coast.
What happens if you skip the tourist levy?
The regulation sets no fine for the levy. Article 23 of Governor Regulation 2 of 2024 lists administrative sanctions: a verbal warning recorded in the Love Bali system, a written warning, and refusal of service at paid attractions. 5 The money penalties sit on the visa side, where an overstay runs IDR 1,000,000 a day. 1
So the levy behaves like a fee, and the day it bites is the day you reach a gate with the voucher missing. Bali's tourism office runs those checks at the airport, at accommodations and at the sites themselves, which means a gap tends to surface on a morning you had other plans. 7
Pay it at home, on a laptop, with a card you have used before. Ten minutes on a Tuesday beats a queue at a temple gate.
Where the official pages live
Four official addresses run this whole process. The e-VOA portal at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, the Directorate General of Immigration at imigrasi.go.id, Bali's Love Bali system for the levy, and the All Indonesia declaration at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id.
The visa fees and rules here come from the immigration service's own e-VOA page as archived on 20 August 2026; the levy facts come from Bali's provincial government portal. 1, 2
That gap matters for one reason. A fee can move between an archive date and your departure date. Open the portal yourself, read today's number, then pay.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a return ticket or a hotel booking to apply?
The application itself asks for the passport biodata page, a photograph and an email address. Proof of funds, accommodation and onward travel stay off the form. An immigration officer at the border can still ask to see a return ticket, so have yours on your phone. 1
Can I pay the visa fee in cash?
The online portal takes Mastercard, Visa and JCB credit cards only, and gives you 120 minutes to finish once you reach the payment step. The card can be in someone else's name. 1 Payment methods at the arrival counter stay unconfirmed here, so travel with a card that works abroad.
How early can I buy the e-VOA?
The Visitor Visa stays valid for 90 days, which is the window you have to enter Indonesia. Your 30-day stay starts on the arrival date, so buying three months ahead costs you nothing in trip days. 1
Do babies need their own visa and levy?
Yes, on both counts. Each traveler holds a separate Visitor Visa, including infants and children listed in a parent's passport. 1 The levy's seven exemption categories cover visa types and transport crew, with age left out. 5
Do I pay the levy again if I leave Bali and come back?
The province describes the levy as a one-time charge per foreign tourist. 2 Whether a second entry inside the same trip triggers a second payment stays unconfirmed here. Ask through the Love Bali system before you plan a hop to Lombok or Labuan Bajo and back.
Where do I go to extend the visa?
An immigration office inside Indonesia, once, for another IDR 500,000 and another 30 days. 3 The appointment timing and document steps could not be verified from an official page for this article, so confirm them with the office covering your area early in the month.
What is the All Indonesia declaration?
It is the All Indonesia declaration, launched 1 October 2025 as a single integrated system that folds the immigration, customs, health and quarantine declarations into one submission instead of separate ones. 8 What happens at the gate if you arrive without the QR code is not confirmed here, so treat filing it as a task for before you fly, not one to sort out in the queue.
