Every price on this page was read from an operator's own page or a named visitor-information site on 25 September 2026. Bali's beach gate fees and the temple's fee schedule have no government or customary-village page that publishes them, so the sources used are named in each footnote. Currency conversions use Bank Indonesia's JISDOR reference rate of IDR 17,917 to USD 1 on 25 September 2026.
Start at the cliff gate
By six in the evening the amphitheatre at Pura Luhur Uluwatu is full, and the chant starts. Gates open at four, the dance runs six to seven, and on a weekend the tiers fill long before the first row sits down. 1 Below the temple wall, swell that crossed open water folds along a reef the surf camps here treat as their front garden. 7
Uluwatu sits at the south end of the Bukit Peninsula, about 18 km from Ngurah Rai airport, a drive of 30 to 45 minutes. 5 One cliff road runs the length of it, past a string of coves. Each cove has its own turning, its own parking attendant and its own gate fee. The reef under the temple is an exposed left-hand point break. 10
So this page prices the whole thing. Both temple tickets, the beach gates, a lesson, the car from the airport, and a night on the cliffs at each end of a very wide range. Figures were read from each operator's own page, or from a named visitor-information site where no operator publishes one, on 25 September 2026.
What does a day in Uluwatu cost?
Small amounts, collected in cash, at a lot of separate gates. Local currency first; the dollar figures use Bank Indonesia's reference rate for 25 September 2026.
Almost everything on the Bukit is charged at a gate, in cash, in small amounts. One beach costs the price of a coffee. The temple evening costs more than the beaches put together. Add the levy and one airport car, and the fixed lines of a first day come to IDR 625,000, near USD 35 at IDR 17,917 to the dollar. 3, 4, 5, 1, 6, 2
| Line | Price, IDR | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Private car, airport to Uluwatu, 1 to 5 people | 250,000 | About 18 km, 30 to 45 minutes, tax and service included |

| Uluwatu Temple entry, foreign child | 40,000 | Same hours |
| Padang Padang Beach, international adult | 15,000 | Cash only |
| Melasti Beach, per adult | 10,000 | Parking 3,000 a car, 2,000 a scooter, open round the clock |
| Balangan Beach, car parking | 10,000 | No entrance fee, 5,000 for a scooter |
| Green Bowl Beach, parking | 2,000 | About 300 concrete steps down to the sand |
IDR 150,000 is about USD 8 at the 25 September 2026 reference rate, and IDR 250,000 about USD 14. 2 The beach and temple fees come from named visitor-information sites and travel blogs; no Badung Regency, provincial tourism or customary-village page publishes them. Carry small notes.

The dance costs two and a half times the temple it is staged at, and more than every beach gate on the peninsula combined. The beaches are the cheap part of Uluwatu; the evening is the line to plan around. Source: 5, 1, 3, 4, 14, 6, 11, 12
What are the best things to do in Uluwatu?
Uluwatu is a cliff road with beaches hanging off it. Every one of them means a turning, a parking attendant and a set of steps. The walk down is the price of admission as much as the ticket is, and the coves are small enough that the middle of the day is the busy part.

- Padang Padang is the cove used in the film Eat Pray Love. International adults pay IDR 15,000 and children IDR 10,000, and it is cash at the booth. A board on the sand is IDR 100,000 an hour and a one-hour lesson there IDR 400,000. 6
- Melasti charges IDR 10,000 a head, with parking at IDR 3,000 a car and IDR 2,000 a scooter, and keeps no fixed closing time. 11
- Balangan costs nothing at the gate: IDR 5,000 to park a scooter, IDR 10,000 a car. Surf shacks along the sand rent a board for about IDR 50,000 for two hours, and the wave is a long left off the point that works at low and high tide. 12
- Green Bowl is IDR 2,000 to park and about 300 concrete steps down. Monkeys work the treetops beside the stairway and take hats from people holding them loosely. 13
- Garuda Wisnu Kencana is the half-day pairing most visitors make. Regular entry is IDR 150,000, and the top-of-statue tour is IDR 400,000. Children under 100 cm go free and the internal buggy is IDR 40,000. It sits toward Ungasan, so treat it as a trip out of the village. 14
Bingin and Suluban sit on the same stretch and appear on every other list of the Bukit. This page prices only the coves with a published figure, so treat any number quoted for those two as one to confirm at the booth. The wider country sits in MMT's Indonesia travel guide.
The temple and the Kecak, in order
Pura Luhur Uluwatu is a working temple that also sells tickets. Balinese Hindu practice sets what happens inside it. The ticket buys entry and the sarong and sash you wear there, and the temple is open 07:00 to 19:00. 1 The fire dance is staged in an open amphitheatre on the cliff and ticketed on its own. 1
Arrive by four
Gates to the amphitheatre open at 16:00, and the temple stays open until 19:00, so there is time to walk the cliff path first. 1
Pay at both windows
IDR 60,000 for temple entry as a foreign adult, IDR 150,000 for the Kecak. The sarong and sash come with the temple ticket. 1
Stow everything loose
Long-tailed macaques live around the temple and its forest, and the temple asks visitors to keep sunglasses, phones and small items inside a closed bag and to leave the animals alone. 1
Take a seat before five
The tiers fill on weekends, on holidays and through peak season. The show itself runs 18:00 to 19:00. 1
If something is taken, ask staff
Temple staff deal with it. Chasing a macaque along a cliff wall ends badly for the person doing the chasing. 1

Temple dress works the same way across Bali, and the fees inland differ. MMT's Ubud temples guide covers Tirta Empul, Goa Gajah and what each of them asks visitors to wear. Anything beyond the sarong and sash is worth a question at the ticket window before you queue, because each temple sets its own rules for who may enter and when.
Which Uluwatu surf break matches your level?
One reef, six named sections, and only one of them is a place to learn.
Uluwatu is a single reef with six moods, worked from one cave entrance. A surf camp in Pecatu that calls this its home break divides it as below. Access is by one of three staircases through the cave, and the camp describes the third as the reliable one year round. 7
| Section | Tide | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| The Racetrack | Low to mid | The entry-level section from the cave, and rides of 300 to 400 metres |
| The Peak | High | The most consistent section, and the most crowded |
| Temples | Mid to high | Northernmost, heavy and fast, advanced |
| Secrets | Outermost and biggest | Advanced only, with a rock entry |
| Outside Corner | Active at double overhead and above | Expert, a perfect wave when it switches on |
| The Bombie | A deep-water big-wave indicator | Expert, holds waves to 40 feet and can link into Outside Corner for rides near 2 km |
The camp's own explanation for why the reef is rarely flat: an unobstructed swell window of roughly 165 to 280 degrees, and the Java Trench offshore delivering groundswell without losing energy over a shelf. 7
May to October is the season. The reef wants a southwest groundswell against a southeast offshore wind, and August is its most consistent month: the forecaster's historical model rates 99 percent of August days clean. The forecaster's 26 September reading of sea temperature was 26.2 C. 10
Beginners start elsewhere on the Bukit. Padang Padang Surf Camp, which has checked Pecatu's beginner breaks in person every morning since 2005, charges GBP 20 a person for one group lesson or GBP 35 for two sessions in a day if you are staying there, and GBP 29 or GBP 47 if you are not. Board and rash vest are included. 15
Guiding for surfers who can already paddle out is GBP 12 a day with your own board and GBP 20 using theirs. 15 That fee buys someone who knows which section is working before you paddle into it, which on this reef is the difference between a good morning and a long swim.
What does a night on the cliffs cost?
Two named properties in Pecatu, priced from their own pages, at opposite ends of the same clifftop.
Uluwatu's rooms span two orders of magnitude, and both ends are real places with published prices. A bed at a surf camp and a villa on the cliff edge are the same postcode and a different holiday. Start by deciding which one you are booking, because the shortlists have nothing in common.
| Room | Solo, GBP a week | Solo, GBP a night | Two sharing, GBP each a week | Two sharing, GBP each a night |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard room | from 749 | 107 | from 560 | 80 |
| Superior suite | from 1,225 | 175 | from 847 | 121 |
The nightly figures are MMT's own division of the camp's weekly rate by seven. Breakfast and lunch, the pool, sauna, ice bath, surf-skate bowl and daily resident coaching are included. Lessons, dinner, beach gates, the Kecak and boat trips are extra, a 3.5 percent card surcharge applies, and airport transfers are included on stays of seven nights or more and otherwise GBP 20 one way or GBP 35 return. 8
At the far end, The Edge runs eight villas on the cliff at Pecatu. Its Stay 3, Pay 2 offer prices a two-bedroom villa from IDR 58,000,000 nett for three nights, bookable through 20 December 2026 for stays between 1 September and 23 December 2026. 9
Divide by three and that is IDR 19,333,333 a night, about USD 1,079 at the 25 September reference rate. A day pass to its oneeighty pool starts at IDR 700,000 for outside guests, near USD 39, which is the cheap way to see the view. 9, 2
Between those two ends sit the villas, guesthouses and homestays most readers actually book, and the choice turns on which stretch of the cliff road you want to wake up on. MMT prices those by area in where to stay in Uluwatu.
Two names you will meet on any Uluwatu shortlist sit on this cliff and publish rates only through their own booking forms: Alila Villas Uluwatu and Suarga Padang Padang. Ask both for your dates directly.
Should you base in Uluwatu or Canggu?
The two southern bases answer different questions, and the honest split is what you want your mornings to look like. Uluwatu's day is a cliff road, a gate fee at most coves and a reef that rewards advanced surfers. 5, 7 Canggu's case is coworking, cafes and a monthly rent, which MMT prices in Canggu for remote workers.
- Choose Uluwatu if you surf, or you want to watch surfing. The reef works May to October on a southwest swell, and August is its most consistent month. 10
- Choose Uluwatu if you want the beaches small and separate. Each cove has its own road down and its own gate, from nothing at Balangan to IDR 15,000 at Padang Padang. 12, 6
- Choose Uluwatu if your flight lands or leaves at an awkward hour. It is about 18 km from Ngurah Rai, a drive of 30 to 45 minutes, and a private car for one to five people is IDR 250,000. 5
- Choose a night near the airport instead if you want to walk to dinner. MMT makes that case in its Kuta guide. If the water is the point and the cliffs are optional, a diving month in Amed prices the east coast instead.
The drive between Uluwatu and Canggu is the open question here. Published distances and times disagree by a wide margin, and none of the sources is an operator quoting its own route. The one leg with a provider's own number is the airport run above. Ask your driver for the fare and the time before you commit to a split stay. 5
How do you get there and get around?
One road runs down the Bukit, and everything you came for hangs off it. Kuta Transport, a named Bali operator, puts Ngurah Rai to Uluwatu at about 18 km and 30 to 45 minutes by car, and prices a private minivan for one to five people at IDR 250,000 with an English-speaking driver, tax and fuel included, and a name board at arrivals. 5 Traffic decides the rest.
Parking is the running cost once you are there.
- Green Bowl, IDR 2,000 13
- Melasti, IDR 3,000 a car 11
- Balangan, IDR 10,000 a car or IDR 5,000 a scooter 12
- Padang Padang, no parking fee confirmed
Small notes matter more than a card here, because the booths take cash.
Steps are the other cost, paid in knees. Green Bowl is about 300 concrete steps from the clifftop car park to the sand, and the climb back up in the afternoon heat is the part people forget when they plan three beaches in a day. 13 Two coves in a day is a comfortable plan. Three is a march.
One more line to settle before you land: the Love Bali levy is IDR 150,000, paid once a trip. 3, 4 The provincial tourism office checks the voucher at destinations and accommodation as well as at the airport, and Uluwatu is one of the places where it has run that monitoring in person. 3 Arrival paperwork for the country as a whole sits in MMT's Indonesia travel guide.

Do I need a separate ticket for the Kecak dance?
Yes, it is priced and ticketed separately from temple entry. 1 Arrive before 17:00 on a weekend, a holiday or in peak season, when the tiers fill early.
How far is Uluwatu from the airport?

May to October is the window. The forecaster's 26 September reading of sea temperature was 26.2 C, so a wetsuit is a comfort choice rather than a requirement. 10
How much does it cost to stay in Uluwatu?
The published range runs from GBP 560 a person a week sharing a standard room at the Pecatu surf camp, about GBP 80 a night, to IDR 19,333,333 a night, roughly USD 1,079, for a two-bedroom villa at The Edge under its three-nights-for-two offer. A day pass to that resort's pool is IDR 700,000 for outside guests. 8, 9, 2
